Scott Newman of South Brunswick Township, New Jersey, passed away suddenly Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Son of the late Charles and Arlene (Mittman) Newman, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and raised in Haverford, Pennsylvania. Scott had a storied career as an award-winning sports journalist in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh and investigative producer for ABC and NBC news, and as head of strategy for Bloomberg's media syndication division in New York. Most recently, Scott took up financial advising as The Practical Guy. Scott was an avid fantasy football participant, often giving his winnings to charity.
Scott was dearly loved by his wife of 26 years Beth (Caruso) Newman, his two daughters Bianca and Alexxa, brother Brett, sister Allyson and her husband Terry Kiesow, aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, and countless loyal and caring friends and colleagues. All will miss his unique sense of humor, quick wit, solid integrity, and boundless compassion for others.
Visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015, at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. Interfaith memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Cor Unum, Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, 1200 Stuart Road, Princeton. Private burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9.
