Obituary of Doris V. Bishop
Doris V. Bishop (née Ferguson) was born in New York City and passed away March 3, 2023 in Plainsboro, New Jersey. Sadly, her passing came a little over a week after celebrating her 94thbirthday.
History of Deceased
Doris was the second oldest of four siblings born to Ann (née Schultz) and Frances Ferguson, who emigrated from Scotland. Her fond memories of growing up in New York City include roller-skating around the city, feeding the squirrels at Central Park, visiting the many museums, swimming at Jones Beach and the beaches at Coney Island, and winning a singing contest sponsored by Coca-Cola. Doris attended Cathedral High School, a Catholic college preparatory school offering an advanced curriculum for young women before that was common. After graduation, Doris’s first job was with the US Postal Service. Shealso worked in the Garment District of New York City, eventually becoming a fashion buyer working for an import company based in Hawaii and with Hawaiian textiles. After marriage, Doris lived in New Brunswick before moving to Lincroft, near Red Bank, New Jersey, where she worked as an administrative assistant at Cook Campus, Rutgers University-New Brunswick. With the births of her two daughters, Laura Kuehner and Suzette Bishop, she became a stay-at-home mom.The family moved to Ballston Lake, New York, where they lived for more than a decade. Doris eventually relocated to Long Island and then back to New Jersey. Additional employment during this period included being an administrative assistant at Dowling College’s library in Oakdale, New York and a retail position at Woolworths in Atlantic City. A devout Catholic, she taught Sunday school and enjoyed theater, movies, reading, and gardening.
Predeceased and Survivors
Doris is predeceased by her siblings, Mary Ferguson, Patricia Kelly, and Malcolm Ferguson. She is survived by her two daughters; son-in laws, Raymond Kuehner and Richard Wright; grandchildren, Wayne Kuehner and R.J. Kuehner; their spouses, Katie Kuehner and Katie Koplitz; great-grandchildren, Logan Kuehner and Roman Kuehner; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Service Information
Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2023, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, both taking place at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 10 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Cecilia Parish.
