Obituary of Joseph P. Abbamont

We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Joseph P. Abbamont Jr., 75, of Sparta, NJ on January 23, 2023. Born November 18, 1947, in Yonkers, NY, he grew up in South Brunswick and subsequently resided in California, Virginia, Florida, and finally in Sparta where for the past 30 years he lived in a beautiful home he built in the mountains overlooking Lake Mohawk and surrounded by all that nature has to offer. This was Joseph’s slice of heaven on earth.

Joseph, a United States Navy Vietnam Veteran, enjoyed a rich teaching career as an Industrial Arts Teacher that spanned over thirty years in both California and New Jersey, eventually retiring in 2003 from the Montclair School District. He was a graduate of California State University, San Diego. Joseph was a person who loved adventure with a particular passion for auto racing. He competed in many racing series with cars that always hailed his lucky number “6” and was a certified Formula One Driver.

Son of the late Joseph and Heidi M. (Hoesli) Abbamont, he is survived by his wife Lisa Gettis, a brother and a sister-in-law Gary W. and Katherine Abbamont, a sister and brother-in-law Heidi and Scott Hoover, a brother Richard J. Abbamont, and nieces and nephews Tim Hoover, Christopher Hoover, Nicole Abbamont, Lindsay Hoover, William Abbamont and Lauren Abbamont.

Funeral Services and Burial were private with immediate family members present in the Holy Cross Burial Park under the direction of the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, Monmouth Junction.
