Obituary of Steven Edward Chegus

Please share a memory of Steven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Steven Edward Chegus, 56, passed away on November 29, 2022 after a short illness with his loving family by his side. He was born in Perth Amboy, grew up in Englishtown and lived in South Brunswick where he spent the last 28 years growing his family. Steve was employed by Merck in Rahway as a Millwright Maintenance Mechanic which was his dream job since his father also worked and retired from there after 35 years of service. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years and was skilled in welding, electrical, boiler operations and had many certifications in these areas.  Steve could fix anything that was broken and never refused to work overtime whenever asked. Steve was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and with his faithful dog Oreo. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and a good fire pit. He was the most wonderful, giving and caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend anyone could ever ask for. His loss is immeasurable, and our hearts are broken from his passing.

Predeceased by his father John Chegus; he is survived by his mother Patricia Carol (Mollish) Chegus, wife Dina Marie (Spilatore) Chegus, sons Nicholas and Joseph Chegus, brother John Chegus and his girlfriend Melissa Coval, and many extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 1-4pm on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 58 Main Street, Englishtown, NJ 07726. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society in Steve’s name.
