Obituary of Mai Chu

Mai Chu, 67, of Monmouth Junction, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center of Plainsboro, NJ.

Mai was born in Hong Kong, China and immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in her teenage years. She was a loving wife to her husband and devoted mother to her daughter. Mai worked at the bank for many years, where she met her husband. Mai was a dedicated homemaker, raising Elaine in NJ and cooking delicious meals for the family. Mai also taught kindergarten Chinese School Class on the weekends and taught Chinese Cooking Classes at the South Brunswick Community Center. She was a teacher and learner at heart. She enjoyed living her life as a secret engineer by trying to invent new things and ways to be more efficient. She was the best bargain hunter and enjoyed relaxing at the sauna after going to the gym. She also enjoyed learning Mandarin, participating in weekly bible studies, traveling, spending time at the beach, and trying new foods. She was a fierce competitor who always tried to win the weekly crown for most steps on her FitBit and the #1 spot in Rummikub and poker.

Mai always looked on the bright side, had a strong fighting spirit, and was filled with hope, love, and positivity. She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community.

Predeceased by her parents King Nam and Sau Tai (Louie) Chee, and her father-in-law Chuckbor Chu. 

She is survived by her loving husband Yat Chu; a daughter, Elaine Chu, and her husband Maurice; five sisters and two brothers: Susan Suhu, Frances Tse, Kwan Louie, Maryann Chee, Mabel Chee, Steven Chee, and Joseph Chee; mother-in-law Miuyee Chu; sister-in-law Yeetan Shum; two brothers-in-law, King Chu and Jack Chu; a granddog Duke; and many nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at MJ Murphy Funeral Home, located at 616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ, 08852. A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at MJ Murphy Funeral Home at 616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, 08852.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Mai’s memory.

A repast will follow the service.
