Isabel Santiago Vega, 90, of Ciales, Puerto Rico passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 8. Born in Ciales she relocated with her family to Somerset, NJ in 1976 where she lived until returning to Ciales in 1993. She spent her time raising her children and tending to the farm. In 2017, Hurricane Maria forced her to move to Summerville, SC where she resided for 3 years, then spent her last 1.5 years in Monmouth Junction, NJ.
Isabel was known for always having a smile on her face and being ready to dance at any moment, especially to Fruta Fresca by Carlos Vives. She was devoted to caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all meant the world to her. She loved to cook and was happy to feed an army on any occasion. Her life was based on a strong foundation of faith. She was a devout Catholic, prayed the rosary daily and lived her life according to her faith. Isabel will be remembered for being loving, kind, and cheerful.
Wife of the late Antonio Vega, she is predeceased by 5 siblings and survived by 11 children, Jose Vega, Angel Vega, Hector Vega, Josefina Vega, Rosa Vega Neer, Diego Vega, Sonia Vargas, Elsa Valentino, Orlando Vega, Ovidio Vega, and Edwin Vega, 31 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 3 siblings Carmen Santiago, Jose Santiago, and Manuel Santiago.
The viewing will be held from 2:00pm-5:00pm on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from the MJ Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction with a funeral service at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund at https://www.kidneyfund.org/ways-give.
