Obituary of Marie A. Thomas
Marie A. Thomas, 82, of South Brunswick, NJ, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022 while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Marie emigrated to the United States in April 1972 residing in Princeton, NJ among close family and friends in her pursuit for a better life for herself and her family. Marie would later marry in February 1976 to Joseph.
Ava, as she was affectionately known, was a caregiver by nature. She dedicated her life to helping others. Ava began her career in healthcare by working at Merwick Rehabilitation Center as a nursing assistant then transitioning to Princeton Medical Center as a unit secretary. She furthered her education to help others and proudly obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse degree in 1993. She retired from Mercer County Geriatric Center after 20 years of service.
Away from work, Ava enjoyed playing the piano, traveling to Canada, listening to religious and classical music and she loved cooking unique Haitian cuisines for her family. Ava enjoyed serving her catholic parish as a Eucharist Minister at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church for 27 years.
Predeceased by her parents Mirabeau Cadestin and Meracide Jean Baptiste, sister, Vesta Jean Baptiste and brother Walter Jean Cadestin, she is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Thomas; her 3 daughters Martine Caldwell, Thalia Thomas and Alexandra Thomas; a step-son James Thomas (Heather Castello); a granddaughter, Courtney Caldwell; sisters in law, Geronie Cadestin and Marie Thérèse Thomas; her nieces and nephews Marie Cadestin, Jean Cadestin, Ronald Kalil, Daphne Gribetz and first cousins Hubert and Evans Cadestin.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, Monmouth Junction. Entombment Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Marie A. Thomas was a loving wife, mother, friend and loved God with all her heart. Her favorite scripture from the Bible was Psalm 23 in which she read in times of sorrow, strength and for God’s protection. She will be sorely missed by everyone that loved her.
