Obituary of James W. O'Beirne
James W. O’Beirne, 82, of Ocean View, Delaware, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022.
Born and raised in New York, NY, James was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy, enlisting at just 17 years old. After serving in the military, he worked as a computer programmer, most recently with Lehman Brothers before retiring. James and his loving wife, Fran, married and moved to Staten Island, NY, before settling in Kendall Park, NJ, for more than 25 years where together they built a family. He retired in 2002 to Ocean View.
A man that was sure to give you a laugh with his sharp wit and sarcasm, James had a way about him that others could not forget. He was a Civil War history buff and avid memorabilia collector, who, along with his family, enjoyed taking many trips to Gettysburg, PA, to tour the museums and battlefield. James also enjoyed antiquing, devouring the Reader’s Digest cover to cover, completing the TV Guide crossword puzzle, crime shows, and watching classic Western movies. His favorites included Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy. Known as “Jimmy” to most, he also loved country and doo-wop music, and dancing the Lindy with Fran at many family events.
Predeceased by his parents, James and Violet (Hirth) O’Beirne; brother, John O’Beirne; and sister, Helen O’Beirne Taber, he is survived by his devoted wife of more than 58 years, Frances (Arena); loving children, Debra Steele (Keith), Lori Fiore (William), and Robert O’Beirne Collins (James); grandchildren, Shannon, Megan, and Kaitlyn Steele, and Jenna and Ava Fiore. James is also survived by John V. O’Beirne and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
