Obituary of Irene A. Latosek

Irene Latosek (Sweda), age 91, passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2021. 

Irene was born February 24, 1930, to the late John and Anna Sweda in Plains Township, Pennsylvania.   One of five children, she was surrounded by a close-knit family of two sisters and two brothers. 

Irene married William Latosek and moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey.  In 1955 they welcomed the birth of their first child, Linda.  In 1957 they purchased a house in Kendall Park, New Jersey as one the development’s earliest residents.  While living in the same house for the next sixty-four years they welcomed three more daughters, Susan, Julieann, and Cynthia.

During her years in Kendall Park, Irene became active in various organizations throughout the area including The St Augustine’s Columbiettes, the Golden Age Society of South Brunswick, Elijah’s Kitchen, the Social Club of St Augustine’s with Sister Ruthann, and the Lazarus Ministry.  She also helped with Mass being said at the Convalescent Home and the Parish Prayer Link. She was always very proud of being named a Charter Member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, William, she is pre-deceased by her daughter Susan Bernard, her granddaughter Stephanie Bernard, and her long-time friend and companion, Robert Ceraso. She is survived by her daughters:  Linda Ryan (Thomas) of Freehold, New Jersey; Julieann Mastandino (Raymond) of Kendall Park, and Cynthia Latosek of Kendall Park. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Allison Ryan-Shapiro, Thomas Ryan, Jack Bernard, Christopher Bernard, Michelle Bernard, and Michael Mastandino, in addition she is survived by nine great-grandchildren; Patrick, Charlotte Leah, Kira, Elizabeth, Eli, Ella, Elaina, and Arya,

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine of Canterbury, 45 Henderson Road, Kendall Park, NJ on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 10AM. Burial of Ashes will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park 840 Cranbury South River Road Jamesburg, NJ.
