Obituary of John A. Kirchner
John A. Kirchner, 85, of Monmouth Junction died Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center of Plainsboro John was born in Washington, DC to Albert Henry and Mary W. Kirchner, John graduated second in his class at Gonzaga College High School and was a standout athlete., John considered his high school years to be some of the best years of his life. He attended the University of Notre Dame, and upon graduation, married Shirley Lewis, who predeceased him on March 12, 2020. John served in the Marine Corps for three years. In 1960, he started his career at Air Products and Chemicals, retiring in 1992.
John and Shirley raised a family of 6 children. Their daughter Carol Norcia and their son Edward predeceased them. Surviving children include Christina (Tom) Kirschner of Union Vale, NY, Joseph of Emmitsburg, MD, Tom (Mari) of Cornelius, NC and Catherine of Easton, PA. John and Shirley were blessed with 10 grandchildren:Andrea, Stephen, Kathryn, John, Jim, Natalie, Karl, KC, Will and Tim.
John was also predeceased by his brother Albert. John is survived by 3 sisters: Claire Lawless of Kensington,MD, Rosemary Brisbane of Bethesda, MD and Anne Kirchner of Tulsa, Oklahoma as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was a devoted father and grandfather, generous and always there to help his family in need. He was a huge fan of the New York Mets and the Notre Dame football team. The family has been left with a treasure trove of photographs and slides, old and new, due to John’s passion for photography. Upon retirement, John and Shirley bought a summer home in Wildwood Crest,NJ, much to the delight of beach loving family members .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church 45 Henderson Road, Kendall Park. Burial will follow in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A Visitation will be held on »(Do not delete this line. It does not print.
