I am saddened to read of the death of my good friend Betty Jones. Although she was the "church buddy" who would accompany me to church on Saturday nights for many years at St. Cecilia's, we were more than that--we were good friends. We often went out for pizza after mass, and had many nice lunches after shopping trips. Betty cared about others and always wanted to be helpful to all, putting her own needs aside She would call me up after a snowstorm, learn that I was headed outside to clear my deck and walkways, and say she wished she could come to my house to help me. I would answer "Good!--I think I have another shovel...!"
Betty was a shining light in the world. She loved the Church, and she loved Jesus. And now they are together. I will miss her greatly, but I know that she is where she always yearned to be: at home, and at peace, with the Lord.
