MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL
Obituary of Mario D’Angio
Mario D’Angio, 95, of Kendall Park died peacefully at home, surrounded by this family, on Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was born in Trivio, Italy in 1925. As a determined, hard-working young man, he set his sights on small businesses in his hometown. By 1950, he was the proud owner of a grocery store, olive oil business, bakery and bar. None of his business successes held a candle to the love he had for his wife, Maria, to whom he was married for 74 years.
Mario and Maria immigrated to the United States in 1971 with their young family. He first worked as a welder in Brooklyn, NY before moving to Kendall Park, NJ in 1972, where he worked as a custodian at St. Augustine of Canterbury School for 44 years alongside his wife. He was an integral part of the St. Augustine community and an active member of the parish, volunteering for many years as an usher. Parishioners and students will remember his signature greetings: “hello beautiful” and “hello my friend.” His family and friends will always remember his humble nature, kindness and generosity.
When he wasn’t working, you could find him tending to his fruits and vegetables in his garden– namely, his tomatoes which he jarred and used for Sunday family dinners, and his figs which he loved sharing with many.
Before his passing, he celebrated 50 years of living in America on January 17, 2021.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Enrico D’Angio and Tommasina (DeNorio DeMeo) D’Angio, as well as his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Maria Cristina Treglia D’Angio, and three daughters – Tommasina Sparagna and her husband, Pasquale Sparagna, Letizia Tinacci and her husband, the late Felice Tinacci, and Nicolina Canestri and her husband, Carlo A. Canestri.Grandchildren Maria Cristina, Emilia, Giovanni and his wife Lauren, Erasmo, the late Giuseppina, Carlo M. and his fiancé Sarah, Cristina and great-grandchildren, Giovanni P., Luca and Vita Maria and numerous family members in New Jersey, New York and Trivio.
