Obituary of Donald J. Taylor

Donald J Taylor, 84, of Kendall Park died Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY he has been a resident of Kendall Park since 1969. A graduate of Dumont High School, Harrington Park, NJ, he received a full Scholarship to Rutgers University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics.  After college graduation he entered the United States Air Force and was assigned to Biggs Air Force Base, Elpaso, Texas in 1959.  Upon finishing his obligation to the United States Air Force in 1962 and attaining the rank of Captain, he returned to New Brunswick, New Jersey and was immediately hired by Rutgers University as an Undergraduate Admissions Officer in 1962. Shortly after, Donald was selected as the University’s only Graduate Admissions Officer and attained his Masters Degree in Education and a Doctorate Degree in Education, from Rutgers University.  He was ultimately appointed to the Rutgers University Director of Graduate Admissions for New Brunswick, Newark and Camden Campuses.  Growing his department to over 40 personnel, Donald remained with Rutgers University for over 40 years before retiring in 2002. He had a love for Trinity Church in Princeton, New Jersey and served on several boards, including the Vestry.  He was Past President of the South Brunswick Library from 1974 through 1994, a member of the Palestine Masonic Lodge in New Jersey and a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.  Donald loved spending time with his family on an annual vacation to Long Beach Island, New Jersey for 32 years, golfing with friends of the South Brunswick Senior Golf Association, attending any and all events surrounding Rutgers University, as he was a Loyal Son of Rutgers and especially his classmates of Rutgers College Class of 1958.  Donald’s love of family and community will be missed, however, remembered in our hearts forever.

Son of the late John O. and Charlotte V. (Hansch) Taylor, father of the late Gregory N. Taylor. He is survived by a son Matthew J. Taylor, daughter in law Heather Taylor, grandchildren, Matthew R. Taylor, Gregory N. Taylor, Victoria A. Taylor and Lauren C. Taylor.
