Obituary of Michael Vincent McGann

Michael Vincent McGann, 79, (known as “Vince” to family and friends), of Monroe Township, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, he moved to Kendall Park in 1974 where he lived for 42 years before moving to Monroe Township in 2016.  After graduating Marist High School in Bayonne, he served honorably in the U.S. Army and was the quarterback of his unit’s football team.  He attended Pace University.  During his long career in banking, starting at the Greenwich Savings Bank of NY he met his wife Theresa (Terry).  He later worked as a Vice President at the Dime Saving Bank of NY and consulted for Republic Bank in Florida.  Vince enjoyed his travels to Ireland, visiting family in County Mayo, and many trips to Walt Disney World with his family over the years.  He was an avid football fan and cheered and cursed the NY Giants and NY Yankees over many seasons.  Blessed with a great sense of humor, he kept his loved ones laughing through the highs and lows of a lifetime well-lived.

Vince is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Theresa (Griffin) McGann, daughter Kathleen and son in law Christopher Denney, daughter Margaret and son in law Michael Sadler, son Michael and daughter in law Jillian Burgess, along with 9 grandchildren:  Patrick, Catherine, Edward & Sean Denney, Gavin & Andrew Sadler and Jack & Molly McGann, and another McGann grandson due to arrive in March.  Vince also leaves behind his brother Thomas and wife Eleanor, sisters Patricia Nixon, Joan Marie Ward, Barbara Reitmann and husband John,  sisters in law Joan McGann, Catherine Griffin, Mary Molignano and husband Dominic as well as 23 nieces and nephews.  Vince was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Beatrice (Byrnes) McGann, brother Edward McGann,  brothers in law George Nixon, Joseph Ward, Thomas Griffin and nephew Jimmy Nixon.

The family wishes to thank Joyce RN and Dorothea HHA from VNA for their loving care. They brightened his days over recent months.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 4-6 pm at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction.
