Obituary of Louis Victor Muro

Louis Victor Muro, Son of Michael L. and Mary Muro, passed away peacefully Valentines Day. Louis grew up in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and graduated from Newark College of Engineering in 1954, with a BS in Chemical Engineering.

A brilliant Chemical Engineer, while working for American Metal Climax Inc., Colonia, he patented a process for purifying crude nickel sulfate, a by-product of copper ore. Soon there after, at US Metals, Carteret, he found himself at the beginning of semiconductor technology.  Lou developed a new production process for high purified transistor grade selenium and geranium which was sold worldwide to transistor manufacturers. He was Director of Research & Development for Vulcan Materials Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA, where he developed production processes for recovering Tin from scrap Tinplate. He was the owner of Ace Refiners Corp. refining precious metals Platinum, Gold and Silver for many years. Forever the optimist, he founded a  Tirex Corp., a tire recycling company in Canada. He worked tirelessly to bring patented TCS technology to the tire recycling forefront of the world. He enjoyed speaking of his businesses and inorganic chemistry to whom ever would listen. His mathematical genius enabled him to be faster than a person with a calculator multiplying large numbers. Always looking for the next challenge he never stopped working even in his last months.

Although Louis had a strong work ethic he also played hard too! He was married to Nina (nee. Niles), she predeceased him in 2008. Together for 25 years they loved to dance the night away in NYC and in Montreal. He liked to play guitar and piano while singing having never had a lesson. He built a pool table and loved to play. Louis enjoyed taking his family out to lavish dinners, where he delighted in spoiling himself and us with oysters, lobster and steaks! Most of all he loved hearing about his Grandchildren's accomplishments.
