Peggy Ann Mahala, 71, of Monroe Township passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Centra State Medical Center of Freehold, NJ. Peggy was born in Jersey City, NJ. She graduated from Dickinson High School in 1966. She worked at Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ where she met her husband John V. Mahala, Jr.
She lived in various places throughout her adult life including Andover, MA, Germantown, MD, Palm Coast, FL and Tampa, FL before returning to New Jersey for retirement in 2011. Peggy had great interest in medicine and worked at CVS pharmacy and also as a CNA at Lawrence General Hospital in MA, National Lutheran Home in MD and Veterans Administration Hospital in FL. She also worked in retail sales and grocery. Peggy enjoyed traveling with her family, making new friends, dining out, and walking her dog Krysta.
Predeceased by her parents Carl and Rosemary (Schreck) Hoitela and her former husband John V. Mahala, Jr.
She is survived by one daughter Candice J. Mahala and her partner Matthew Schulz, a sister Betty Selingo and her husband Paul, a brother Carl Hoitela, Jr and his wife Colleen.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions Visitation and Service will be by family invitation only.
Arrangements are under the direction of the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
