Obituary of Dr. Mary Ann Conover Jensen

Dr. Mary Ann Conover Jensen, 72, of Franklin Township passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 at her home.

Mary Ann was born and raised on the family farm in a 200-year old farmhouse where she lived with her parents, the late John Raymond Conover and Helen Csaranko Conover, and her siblings. She was a proud graduate of Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey where she majored in Spanish and met her husband, Peter, who was attending Rutgers College. They married in 1972.

Mary Ann and Peter moved to Southern New Jersey where Mary Ann pursued her doctorate and took a position in the Counseling Department at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).  She spent the next several years in South Jersey working in the counseling department and raising her family before transitioning to a position as Director of Psychological Services at Douglass College.  During this time, she also worked in a private practice with her colleagues in Pitman, New Jersey.  In 2002, she and her family moved back to Franklin Township to a home next door to the family house where she grew up.  In 2011, Mary Ann retired from Rutgers University after more than 20 years, but continued working as a psychologist in a private practice, seeing clients until the day she passed.

Mary Ann spent a lifetime dedicated to helping others. She was an accomplished and respected psychologist to students and patients, and served as a mentor to many in the field.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and was an active member of the churches she attended; both teaching classes and volunteering with charitable services (i.e., President at The Ten Mile Run Cemetery Association).  She had a penchant for travelling, history, loved Broadway plays (i.e., Hamilton), and enjoyed watching British television shows (i.e., BBC).

She was the sister of the late John Raymond Conover, Jr., and is survived by her husband Peter Haakon Jensen, and their three children, Matthew (Sarah), Elizabeth (Daniel), and Paul Jensen.  She will be deeply missed by her older brother, Eugene Paul Conover (Cheryl), and younger sister, Barbara Jean Conover Gross, her Aunt Dolly Keifer (Ron), her nieces and nephews, Catherine Conover, Robert Conover (Marisol), Melissa Porcelli (Joey), Amy Pascal (Joe), Debbie Ronning (Tim), Cindy Shields (Rob), Scott Jensen (Diana), Christopher Gross (Nayade), and great nieces and nephews, Justin Conover (Trish), Courtney, Kylie, Emily, Hailey, Christopher, Zachary, Olivia, Sasha, Jordan, Kennedy, Avery, and Tyler.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM and Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Montgomery Evangelical Free Church, 246 Belle Mead Griggstown Road, Belle Mead, NJ 08502. Due to Covid restrictions, pre-registration will be required www.mefc.ccbchurch.com

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Montgomery Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be at The Ten Mile Run Cemetery Association, 40 Old Georgetown Road, Princeton, NJ, 08540.
