Obituary of Stephen J. Mayer

Stephen J. Mayer, 74, of Columbus died Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton surrounded by his loving family. Born in the Bronx, he resided most of his life in Monmouth Junction before moving to Columbus in 2015.

Son of the late George A. and Annie (Strath) Mayer, son-in-law of the late Jose R. and Mary R. Gomes, he is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of fifty-one years, Gloria G. Mayer, two daughters, Christa G. Mayer and Lauren M. Feher, son-in-law, Kristian H. Feher, grandson, Hendrik W. Feher, and dear friend and devoted caretaker, Min Han.

Steve was an eternal optimist with an indomitable spirit that made him successful in life. He had a rewarding forty year long career in pharmaceuticals, working for Johnson & Johnson, Becton Dickinson, and several other companies including Pro Clinical based in Phoenixville, PA.

He enjoyed watching football, baseball and golf, taking his german shepherd on long walks and had a major sweet tooth. In his earlier days, he earned a VFR private pilot's license. For thirty-five years, he was a member of the Carpenter's Point, MD boating community, exploring the upper Chesapeake Bay waters. These adventurous hobbies led to his fame for being the only man to run out of gas land, sea, and air. Steve was a people person who loved being with his friends and family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Due to temporary New Jersey regulations the visitation and funeral service will be private. Burial will follow on Monday, August 3, 2020 in the Holy Cross Burial Park 840 Cranbury - South River Road, Jamesburg, NJ at 11:45 am and all are welcomed to attend. Masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bancroft NeuroHealth, Attn: Development Office, 1255 Caldwell Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
