Obituary of Markos Kapetanakis

Mark Kapetanakis, 82, of Staten Island, NY died Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he has been a resident of Staten Island since 1987. Mark served in the United States Naval Reserve for over 8 years. He retired in 2000 with over 40 years of service as an Insurance General Adjuster with Hartford Insurance Company. Mark had a passion for Greek Music and enjoyed playing the Doumbek and the Baglama. He was a member of the Fresh Water Anglers of Long Island. He had a keen sense of humor and was an excellent dancer that enjoyed dancing in night clubs with the love of his life, Bertha.

 

Son of the late George and Joan (Kourtakis) Kapetanakis, he is survived by his loving wife Bertha (Poulos) Kapetanakis, daughter Christine Kapetanakis, son and daughter in law George and Haydee Kapetanakis, a brother and sister in law Gus and Marie Kapetanakis, 4 grandchildren Stefanos, Melina, Gabriella, and Markos.


A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 7:00pm until 8:00 pm at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. 
 

The Funeral Service will be conducted 9:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854.

 

Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.

 

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Memory of Mark Kapetanakis to ASPIRE P.O. Box 100 Cottleville, MO 63338. Donations can also be made online at ASPIRE.CARE, an organization for children and adults with Autoimmune Encephalitis and PANDAS.
