MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL
Obituary of Stanley William Hezekiah
Stanley Hezekiah, 91, passed away at his home in Kendall Park on July 13, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Stanley was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad to Archibald and Vio Hezekiah on June 8, 1928. On January 31, 1954, he married Vida da Silva. They moved to the United States in 1970, and settled in Kendall Park, NJ where they lived for 45 years, until his death.
Stanley was a true family man. He gave the very best of himself as a husband, father, “poppies”, brother and friend. Stanley’s quiet and unwavering kindness made him made him the “protector” of one all who he met him. One of Stanley’s greatest joys was his love of pictures and sending “bedazzled “cards to family and friends on special occasions. Every picture that was sent to him, or any card was displayed proudly on the walls in the house. Stanley thoroughly enjoyed a good drink of rum, steel pan and calypso music, and taking care of the family home. He was a skilled craftsman, who learned from his father and always made sure his home was in place.
Stanley is survived by his wife Vida of 65 years; his daughters Gael Garland (Joseph Hilton), Coleen Philpott, Charleen-Anne Shackleford (James), and Carolyn Hoitela (Robert). He is predeceased by his brother Fr. Reginald Hezekiah. He is also survived by his sisters Angela and Jocelyn Hezekiah, and brother, Oswald Hezekiah; grandchildren, Vida, Sean and Kristina Garland; Shannon Williamson (Colin), Courtney and Christopher Shackleford; Adrianna Smith (Joshua) and Alexis Philpott. He was a father to many, a friend to all and his devoted nature will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Family, friends, and all those whose lives Stanley has touched are invited to MJ Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road Monmouth Junction on Tuesday, July 16 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm – to 9:00 pm, to reminisce and celebrate Stanley’s life.
