Mary Earhart Jenkins, 89 of Monroe, NJ, formerly of Piscataway, and Stanton, NJ passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on June 10, 2019. Mary was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Marguerite S. Earhart and was born in Cranford, NJ on November 17, 1929.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, William Robert “Bob” Jenkins. Mary is survived by her sons W. Brian (Penny) Jenkins and Robert E. (Marilyn) Jenkins, and daughters Mary Ellen (Joe) Duffy and Linda (Dominick) Taquinto. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Giovanna (Joe) Creighton, Dana Jenkins, Kira Burns, Francis Duffy, Sofia Jenkins, Alix Burns and Mary Rose Duffy. She treasured her great-granddaughter, Olivia Creighton.
Children were one of Mary’s greatest sources of joy. After graduating from William and Mary College, she spent five years teaching in Maryland before leaving the workforce to pursue her dream of being a mom. She worked as a children’s librarian after receiving her Master’s in Library Science from Rutgers University in 1983 until retiring from the Middlesex Public Library.
Mary inherited the Earhart legacy of a love of travel. She and Bob travelled to six continents - most of this during their “senior” years. Treasured photographs show them enjoying a variety of adventures - from visiting penguins in Antarctica to sharing a camel ride in the Egyptian desert.
Mary was a gracious hostess, generous friend and was beloved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial services will be held Saturday morning, June 15 at 11:00 at the Monroe Village Assisted Living facility.
