L. Richard Gons, 88, of South Brunswick, NJ passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at home.
Born in New Brunswick, he was raised in Highland Park and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an engineer for New Jersey Bell Telephone, which later became Verizon. He was an active member of Kingston Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder and Chair of the Pastoral Search Committee. He served his community on the South Brunswick Planning Commission. After retirement he assisted people with tax preparation, taught English in the ISI program, and volunteered at Princeton Hospital. He enjoyed sharing his love of New Hampshire, hiking with his family, and loved playing bridge with his friends.
Son of the late Louis Richard Sr. and Irene (Bauman) Gons, he is survived by his wife Marie (Otken) Gons, his daughter and son-in-law Carol and Kevin Simme, his sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Gons, Stephen and Myra Gons, and Gordon and Melissa Gons, his nine grandchildren and their spouses, Eric and Van Gons, Lyllian Gray and Clay Lepley, William and Sara Gons, Samantha and Andrew Hall, Johanna and Dustin Katcher, Sarah Simme, Kristin Simme, Matthew Simme, and Clayton Gons, and ten great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:45-11:45am on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Kingston Presbyterian Church followed by a memorial service at 12:00pm.
