Obituary of Mary Lou Fulton
Mary Lou Fulton (nee Zimmerman), age 90, of Metuchen, passed away, surrounded by her family, on June 30, 2018. She was born and raised in New Brunswick and has been a resident of Metuchen for the last 63 years.
Mary Lou is predeceased by her husband Robert J. Fulton, Sr. and brother George Zimmerman. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter Mary Lou Noonan of Kingston, NH, son Robert J. Fulton, Jr and wife Lisa of Neshanic, NJ and daughter Joanne Marciniak and husband Paul of Monmouth Junction, NJ. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Keri Roman of Rye, NH, Kristopher Noonan of Lyman, ME, Robert Fulton, III., of Jersey City, NJ, Katie Fulton of Wilmington, DE, Timothy Fulton of Hoboken, NJ, Jaclyn and Jacob Marciniak of Monmouth Junction, NJ and her ‘adopted Jewish’ son David Herzfeld of Robbinsville, NJ. She also was blessed with two great grandchildren, Maddox & Avery Roman of Rye, NH. Mary Lou was so very fortunate and blessed to have her own private angel, (soon to be sainted) here on earth as a care giver, friend and companion, Daisy - or as Mary Lou lovingly referred to her as, “My Daisy” for whom the family is especially grateful.
Mary Lou was a proud graduate (and cheerleader) of St. Peter’s HS class of 1945 and Newark State Teachers College. She taught briefly in Rahway, NJ – only stopping to raise her family. She worked part time in a children’s store in Woodbridge Center and was a member of St. Cecelia’s RC Church in Iselin, NJ.
Mary Lou loved to reminisce about days gone by, (did you know she was a cheerleader?) especially her wonderful memories of growing up in New Brunswick and her high school years. She lovingly headed her multiple class reunions where she gathered as many SPHS Cardinals as she could to celebrate their memories. She was fortunate to have traveled some in her earlier years and enjoyed watching grandchildren’s soccer and hockey games. She enjoyed watching the NJ Devils and the NY Mets and had the pleasure of attending many games. Mary Lou loved trips to New Hampshire and to Point Pleasant, all things seafood and chocolate and in earlier years she enjoyed her Thursday trips (what we like to call her holy days of obligation) to the beauty salon. She loved to share stories of family members and friends, watching Blue Bloods, Young and the Restless, The Voice (Adam Levine, who knew?), being a cheerleader (did I already mention she was a cheerleader?) and bragging about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was proud to be called Gaga (she was the original Gaga for the record), Grandma and Nanas by her grandchildren – and loved when they would come for a visit. She very much missed her many friends and family members that predeceased her especially her husband Bob who has been gone for nearly 21 years, her brother George and wife Dottie. Her stories will live on in her family in love and laughter.
