Leonard Peter Riccardi, 56, died on January 8th, 2022, at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.
Len’s great mission in life and in death was to love God and serve Him. His beloved wife of thirty years, Laura, shared in this mission. She was his dearest earthly treasure, followed closely by his four children, whom he cherished with the purest fatherly love. Len was a devout Catholic and a Secular Carmelite who deeply lived out his personal fiat to God’s Holy Will. His motto was Fiat Voluntas Tua.
Len was an active member of his parish community, St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park, NJ, for twenty-three years. He founded Carpenters for Christ, a group focused on cultivating faith formation and fellowship for the men of the parish, and he was one of the founders of the Men’s Cornerstone Retreat. He and Laura began the VITA Ministry at the parish, a primary focus of which was to promote Marian consecration. He was also a member of the RCIA team, and served as an usher for many years.
Len upheld the highest work ethic throughout his entire life. He began his career at KPMG. He spent the majority of his professional career working as the corporate controller for Ferrero USA. Most recently, he was the Assistant Vice President and Controller at Cosette Pharmaceuticals. At each and every company he worked for, Len was known for his positive outlook, energetic attitude, and hands-on mentorship. He was beloved by all his colleagues.
Len was devoted to the Holy Family, drawing many parallels from his own life to St. Joseph, whom he loved dearly -- most notably that Saint Joseph, as a carpenter, was a craftsman. Len was often found in his garage, bent over a workbench drafting, crafting, and tenderly working wood into its final form. Many of the family's most prized possessions in the house were crafted by Len in his home shop. Every shop day started with a devotional prayer to St. Joseph. In Carmel, Len took the name, St. Joseph of the Holy Family.
Len is survived by his wife Laura Riccardi; his daughters, Jane Irwin (husband Patrick) and Maryann Snyder (husband Stephen); his sons, Peter Riccardi (fiancé Janine) and Nicholas Riccardi; his granddaughters, Colette, Luisa and Mariella; his parents, Leonardo and Shirley Riccardi; his sisters, Karen Day (husband Wayne Day) and Robin Hough; many nieces, nephews, as well as a loving and close extended family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM on Thursday, January 13th at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home (616 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852). Funeral will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 14th at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church (45 Henderson Road, Kendall Park, NJ 08824). Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery (840 Cranbury South River Rd, Jamesburg, NJ 08831).
