Maria "Madre" Cipriano

Maria “Madre” Cipriano, nee Italia, loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the age of 96. Maria was a long-time resi- dent of Hoboken, NJ and spent summers in her hometown of Augusta, Sicily, Italy.

Maria was the daughter of the late Ottavio and Maria (Solano) Italia; wife of the late Vincent “Enzo” Cipriano; sister of the late Josephine Arena, Giuseppe Italia and Giovanni Italia. Maria is survived by her son, Dr. Joseph Cipriano and his wife, Jenny; her daughter, Catherine and hus- band, Anthony Palmieri; grandchildren Sofia Cipriano and Giuliana Palmieri and several nieces, nephews and special friends.

Madre lived a full life and was a wonderful Mamma and Nonna who enjoyed spending time with her family and dear friends in both in the US and Italy. Her hands were rarely still and she loved to prepare the best Italian dishes imaginable. She was especially delighted when making her beloved Sicilian recipes like pizza, cotolette and Cassata alla Siciliana. She was also an ac- complished seamstress. Madre was happiest when her family and friends were together around the dinner table laughing and enjoying the food she prepared. She never missed a chance to tell a story about her childhood or sing a Sicilian song.

A special thank you to all who cared for her during the last years of her life.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 34 Yorktown Road, Hillsborough, NJ.
