Gene P. Holmes

Gene P. Holmes, 61 of South Brunswick, NJ passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Gene was born in Bolling AFB, Washington D.C. and as part of an Air Force family travelled throughout the United States and Japan finally settling in Pemberton, NJ.  He graduated from Pemberton Township High School in 1975. Gene Holmes was a resident of South Brunswick and heavily involved in the South Brunswick PAL youth sports program. He served as the SBPAL football director, co-director of basketball, Tiny Mite Commissioner for central NJ Pop Warner, and the Football Commissioner of the South Brunswick Vikings Pop Warner league.  It was Gene’s passion to help instill the growth in young boys and girls that sports could offer.   Most importantly and as a football, basketball, and baseball coach, it was his pride to watch the growth and maturity of his two sons in these sports over the years.   Also known as an avid scuba diver and lover of the sea; Gene explored many of the ship wrecks off the coast of New Jersey.  He would often capture some great seafood for his friends and family to enjoy.  His many hobbies through the years included, propagating and growing plants, reading, and politics.  Gene was the sole proprietor of a title searching company that he owned and operated for more than thirty years.

Preceded in death by his mother, Kazuko K. Holmes; Gene P. Holmes is survived by his loving wife, Maggie Foley Holmes; his sons, Gene P. Holmes II and Grant E. Holmes; his father Robert D. Holmes Sr.; his brother Robert D. Holmes Jr (Carol); his sisters, Karen M. Elders (Karl) and Margy K. Hasegawa; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 1 – 4 PM at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852.
