Dr. Carlos Fuentes, 91 of Monroe died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Havana, Cuba he migrated to the United States in 1961. He resided most of his life in Bound Brook before moving to Monroe in 2014. Dr. Fuentes was employed by the State Department, Washington, D.C. where he was an advisor to President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired after several years of service as a Professor from Drew University, Madison, NJ.
Son of the late Francisco and Augustina (Mendez) Fuentes, he is survived by his wife Maria R. (Nanni) Fuentes, 3 sons Carlos Fuentes, Jr., Andrew Fuentes, Peter Fuentes, 6 grandchildren Meghan, Ryan, Isabella, Erik, Lucas and Matteo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Mountain Avenue and East High Street, Bound Brook. Burial will follow in the Bound Brook Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, Monmouth Junction.
