Joseph R. Ferrise, 76, of Plainsboro died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he resided in Staten Island, NY and New Providence, NJ before moving to Plainsboro in 2006. He enjoyed summer days on LBI, especially with his grandchildren, more than almost anything.
Joseph retired after a long career in commercial lending that included positions at Chemical Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, First Union and Valley National Bank, among others. He graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, NY. He earned his undergraduate from Pace University and his graduate degree from Seton Hall University.
He was a daily communicant and devoted member of Queenship of Mary Church. As a volunteer, he participated in several ministries including the RCIA program, youth and adult faith formation and served Masses in nursing homes.
Son of the late Joseph A. and Anne (Competello) Ferrise, he is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years Ellen (Dawson) Ferrise, son and daughter-in-law Joseph G. and Karyn Ferrise, daughter and son-in-law Elena and Alfonso LaFemina, a brother Richard J. Ferrise, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and George Mentonis, much-loved grandchildren, Ava and Hannah Ferrise, and AnnMarie and Vincent LaFemina. He will be sadly missed by his mother-in-law, Jane Meldrum, brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas and Jerre Dawson, James Dawson and Alice Dawson. He also leaves to mourn an aunt and uncle, nine nephews and nieces, and many, many first cousins. He was pre-deceased by his wife Carol (Fischetti) and infant son, Anthony.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road (at New Road), Monmouth Junction, NJ. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at Queenship of Mary Church, 16 Dey Road, Plainsboro. Entombment will follow in the Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
