Sonia A. Guce

I am the resurrection and the life.

The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.

– John 11;25

Sonia Guce, dearest wife to Edgar Guce, and loving mother to Brennan went home to be with the Lord on February 25, 2018.

Sonia lived her life not for herself but for Jesus Christ. She lived every day with a clear purpose – to show love to everyone that God sends her way – that they in turn may know, experience and receive the saving love of Jesus Christ.

As a wife, she was the perfect partner, completing her husband. She was his greatest fan, though sometimes the silent critic. Their love of more than 25 years was shinier than silver, more precious than gold. And this love gave birth to a son. Motherhood did not come easy for Sonia though, as she and Edgar had to wait ten years for their precious child Brennan. But in all those years of waiting, she said, she never doubted God's love for her nor did she grow faint in declaring His faithfulness.

She was the youngest of 12 siblings from the marriage of Filemon Castillo Adapon and Emilia Asa-Adapon with dozens of nephews and nieces. Her family will always remember her as the generous auntie - never missing an opportunity to bless each one of them, with a present or with a word of encouragement. Her gift-giving is legendary, finishing her Christmas shopping eleven months early, making sure there is not a single one left out in her list. And her giving was marked with selflessness, often giving away the more precious gifts, as she herself did not desire much.

Sonia had taste – and this is borne out by her flavor creations that made it to the market. At work she is known as the diligent and hardworking flavorist, and pressures notwithstanding, she always remained good natured. Excellence was her hallmark and a job well done was her reward. This tongue that she used to taste her concoctions turned out other delightful flavors as she used it to edify, to inspire and to intercede for her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Sonia's most wonderful gift was her love for children. And this gift she developed to the full as she served and headed children's ministries in the churches she went to. She counts a missionary, a youth pastor, musicians, P&W leaders as some of those who have passed through her in Sunday School. With her "kids", she was patient but firm, funny and creative, but always the loving second mother. "The Crippled Lamb", a production that brought together the Children and Youth Ministries in church together last Christmas was her Swan song.

Sonia lived a short life – but it was a full life. Full because she did seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and so all these things were added unto her. Full because the overflow of her heart and her riches was felt and enjoyed by many through her open palms. Full because she leaves an inheritance that will not soon be used up or spent away– lives that have been touched by God through her.

Having completed her Master's bidding here on earth, Sonia now goes home to the Father. And she receives her reward "Well done good and faithful servant, Come into my rest"
